[GH] Ally Gowans requests clarification on the "No Hauling" requirement for Task 4 :
Hi Gordy,
I would like Dusty, Joe or someone knowledgeable about the objectivity of Task 4 explain why no-hauls is specified when the essence of the task is mending. Seems to me that hauling or not is irrelevant to the task and that the inclusion of the no-haul condition is unnecessary.
Best wishes,
Ally Gowans

[GH] From Bob Rumpf :
Hi Gordy & group,
Applying my 50 plus years experience, I teach fly fishing in general as well as fly casting at all levels. As a lifelong river and stream angler, I use these types mends frequently during an average day on the water. I consider this the best way to deal with certain currents to maintain a drag-free drift. I have frequently successfully reached out to feeding fish in difficult to reach areas such as 15 or 20 feet behind a rock by just mending around the rock.
When teaching beginners to fish, I also use the phrase: "If you're not mending, you're not fishing." Obviously I totally understand this step being included in the exam as these type mends are not only an important fishing tool, but something a thorough instructor should actually teach his students at some level.
Regards,
Bob Rumpf
