Gordy, This is a well argued point and one in which I wholeheartedly agree with Gary Eaton. It certainly raises issues on this side of the pond. There are some tasks I can do with both hands, casting being one. However, I'm right hand dominant and I would not consider myself ambidextrous and would be loath to have an assessment outcome based on my non-dominant hand; it is as Gary says unreasonable.

I have witnessed more than one CCI who declined to go ahead with MCI preparation when Task 20 was added. One was a chap I'd coached who was doing well until we got to casting with the opposite hand. He was so heavily right handed that change became an anathema. He never did go forward with his plans.
Adding newly developed teaching methods to the exam make sense to me. The addition of physical casting achievements may not fit with our primary goal of turning out the best instructors.
Now that makes me wonder if this kind of what some call, "performance creep" is an under appreciated problem.

As a lefty I found it a necessity early on to develop my right hand having observed on multiple occasions a student switching from their right hand to their left to imitate me or something I was showing. I see this as a personal adaptation of my teaching ability to fit into a right handed world and nothing more. While I do practice my right and occasionally fish right handed just for kicks this is a personal decision and not one I feel other Masters or Masters Candidates should be required to do.
As such I find this task an unnecessary one. I would rather see a Masters Candidate spend time on the more important skills and understanding which truly make up a Master. Not their ability to demonstrate ambidexterity.

After reading messages such as yours and Gary Eaton's, it has caused me to look at this task differently.
My point of view has changed from thoughts of expanding the current physical requirements, to suggesting that it be replaced with a requirement that the candidate show competence in teaching students who are opposite handed to their instructor.
With that in mind, I'd like to ask the Group members just how they do tackle that situation.
