[GH] Challenge from Bill Kiester :
Gordy,
All theory, but can anyone poke a hole in it?
Thoughts on maximum rod tip velocity. Remember maximum velocity is not maximum acceleration. During the casting stroke the rod tip is effectively tied to the fly line. This is true accept during a haul. However, hauls cause the fly rod to bend so hauls must occur prior to RSP. At RSP forces accelerating the fly line from all sources end (actually just before RSP as decreasing force equals air drag). At RSP the entire fly line is at is maximum velocity. The rod tip is moving with the fly line. It must, therefore, be at its maximum velocity at nominal RSP.
Note that after RSP a portion of the fly line can be accelerated to a higher velocity as the rod leg gives up energy to the fly leg. If this did not happen we would never crack the whip.
