    Walter & Group...

Counterpoint position by Jim Bass :

Gordy I do not agree with Mark about having our own set of Definitions.  There are plenty of different ideas floating around.  This study group has a leader and I think that his definitions should be good enough until the BOG can come to concusses on the different meanings.  The other thing is when you are teaching you may need several different ways to get the meaning across to your students and need to change the wording a bit for some to understand.  For this group to try to set standards is not only wrong it would be next to impossible. A big part of this group has no idea what grits and red eye gravy is. We probably would have trouble ordering breakfast together!

    Jim,

In my youth I never got any farther South from the Northeast than Delaware.....  so I didn't even know the meaning of the word "GRITS" !

Frankly, I didn't interpret Mark Milkovitz' message to mean that we should become in any way rigid about any definitions we list on our Study Group.

I have no intention of coming up with a list of, "Official Study Group Definitions" !

I do think we need to remain flexible.

We can do that and at the same time not impact in any way the deliberations of our FFF Glossary Committee.  Their task is very different, for they are charged with the accomplishment of definitions which will one day be listed as an official FFF product.

My working definitions may turn out to be slightly different from the ones finalized by the Committee and ratified by the CBOG as they are not FINAL DEFINITIONS at all .... simply ones which work for me as I teach.... and certainly subject to improvement over time as I (and we) use them.

Please note the attachment with my current working definitions.  I do not intend to have this yield a firestorm of discussion.  They are simply the terms I've been using of late.  Use them or not as you see fit.

    Gordy
