    Gordy,
Thanks for the E-mail  message.  I haven't posted recently not because of anger or disappointment but simple because of lack of time.  I have been thinking about subjects for further discussion which should both make some of the ideas more apparent as well as pushing the general subjects forward.  I simple haven't had time to do it.

My next venture will be to discuss in some detail the 4 paradigms of high performance casting - I mentioned these in the prior write-up but didn't elaborate.  It's more feasible to explain these because of Guy Manning's photographs and because the ACA site has video that can be examined frame by frame.  These help to explain how things can be accomplished in casting and a separate subject I was intrigued with many years ago which is an explanation of exactly what Lefty Krey does with his back casts when false casting long lengths of fly line.  Also it will lead naturally into my approaches to teaching casting which I will discuss.

This will be integrated into the prior write-up as well and available to the board.  I think I'll prepare two documents - one with the new material because it will be shorter and another which is an integrated presentation that might be useful for historical purposes.

The new material will also contain a separate section on the equations for rod loading and unloading.  This is because these equations highlight a surprising feature of rod behavior which explains some of the observed behavior of fly rods.

I appreciate your interest.  Walter has been making important contributions in rephrasing statements and this is very important to improving the acceptance of the various explanations.  I look for and appreciate Walter's continued help in these matters.

I can't promise when the new material will be available because I just went on my first fishing trip of the year and have more family related activities that we are scheduling for the near future.  Walter's and your interest will however inevitably heighten my urgency.  Be assured I hold no ill will in any way to any board member and intend to continue writing (as well as reading) board postings when the current rush passes.

    Hi, Server....

I have been studying your former messages from "behind the scenes" and having messages of discussion with Walter Simberski.

Walter has shared some of his thoughts regarding the physics behind what we have loosely been calling "the stop".  He has helped me understand these concepts.

Although I'm not a physicist or engineer, I'm beginning to get a much clearer understanding of what you have proposed to the point that I cannot find fault with your reasoning.

The concept of suspension of acceleration rather than a true "stop" ( which would be cessation of all motion ) has generated a spark in my brain.

At the same time, I understand the acrimony produced by others venting their vehement disagreements. I came to the conclusion that this occurred largely because they couldn't understand what you were proposing.  I also understand that you "bristled" because you couldn't come to terms with their lack of comprehension.

Walter and I feel that your paper on this subject is needed and timely.

We must realize that even casting instructors who are educated may not even have had a basic high school course in physics.  In deference to them, I think it would be a good thing for you to try to distill the concepts down to try to fit it into plain and simple terms ..... NOT easy, I realize !!!!!!!

Perhaps this could be done as a supplement to your paper ????????? .... Walter and I will help in any way we can.

    Best,

    Gordy
